Songwriters's Cafe started in the autumn of 1996 to encourage the art of songwriting by establishing a regular dedicated high profile performance platform for local songwriters, a rare thing in those days.

Over the next three years the Free Sunday Afternoon sessions in the city centre attracted hundreds of songwriters. New talents were launched. Established writers contributed with guest appearances. Showcase gigs travelled to other cities. A magazine and website; promoted new writers to publishers and A&R.

In 1998  SWC, tired of bartering with  publicans and breweries, moved into an old bank in Digbeth to establish the SongBank -  digital writing suites, PR and Marketing, First Step Publishing, Record Label, shop, regular performances and webcasts.  But the premature death of co-founder Honora Murphy knocked the heart out of the enterprise and the project was abandoned.

For one night only SWC returns to a splendid city centre venue with a FREE reunion gig that catches up on the careers of
some of SWC favourite songwriters.
